Devil+Football+Season+Recap

The Lisbon Football season opened up against Leetonia on a Thursday night. The Devils started out slow and struggled during the first half, going into halftime 12-0. They came out in the second half as a different team. They did not allow another point for the Bears the rest of the game. Lisbon scored thirteen unanswered points with touchdowns by Jagr Groubert and Josh Liberati. Jannik Schmidt added an extra point and that gave the Devils the win in a close one 13-12.

In week two the Devils played Mineral Ridge at home. The Devils put up a hard fight and played very well, but just fell short of the win. The final score was 24-17. Lisbon scoring plays were made up of two rushing touchdowns by Josh Liberati and a field goal by Jannik Schmidt. The Devils played a good game and improved significantly from last year when they played Mineral Ridge.

Week three came around and Lisbon was ready for Wellsville. The players were looking forward to this game. The game, however, went the opposite way than everyone wanted it to go. The Devils had a rough game and had a bad turn out. Lisbon lost the game 37-0. After two rough weeks the Devils were looking for a win and hoping to get out of their slump.

It was East Palestine week and the Devils were more excited for this game than any other game so far this season. The Devils came out and played great; winning the game 54-6. The scoring plays were touchdowns by Brandon Barnes, Austin Davis, Shawn McKinnon, Jason Thompson, Danny Shultz, Josh Craig, Brandon Haldiman and Josh Liberati. The blow out from the Devils was a major confidence booster that they would need for the next week against Crestview.

The Devils took on Crestview in week five. It was a hard game for the Devils. The game ended with Crestview winning 48-14. The Lisbon touchdowns were scored by Jason Thompson and Josh Craig. The Devils struggled against the Rebels as they went down in an emotional loss. Lisbon started to look forward to a better game next week against Columbiana. The Devils looked to taste victory once again next week.

In week six Lisbon traveled to Columbiana to play the Clippers. The Devils played a hard game, but just fell short. The Clippers beat the Devils 39-20. The touchdowns in the game were scored by Jason Thompson and Josh Liberati. The Devils fought a hard game, but once again were unable to pull a win out of this game. Next week they play United for the Homecoming game and are looking for a win. A win this week would be special for the Devils. This would mean that not only would they win the Homecoming game, but they would also have beaten their rival.

Week seven was the Homecoming game for the Devils against the United Eagles.  Lisbon fought, but it was to no avail. The Eagles beat the Devils 40-7. The sole touchdown scored for Lisbon was a passing touchdown from Josh Liberati to Shawn McKinnon. This unfortunately was a decade sweep of the Devils for the Eagles. The Devils hope to rebound this week with another tough game against the Springfield Tigers. This would be a major win for the Devils and a major confidence booster.

Week eight came and the Devils traveled to Springfield to play the Tigers. The Devils are strongly looking for another win. However, the game did not turn out the way they wanted it to. They took another rough loss, with the score being 49-10. The touchdown was scored by Austin Davis. Jannik Shmidt capitalized with a field goal and the extra point following Davis’ touchdown. Next week, the Devils will be home against the Southern Local Indians for the last time the seniors will play on the home field. It is also Senior Night. The Devils will definitely be looking for a win this week above all else.

Week nine was Senior Night for the Devils. The Devils were home against the Southern Local Indians, and it was a successful game for the Devils. The final score was 28-7. Touchdowns were scored  by passes from Josh Liberati to Shawn McKinnon and Danny Shultz, and Josh Liberati also had two rushing touchdowns to top it all off. The game was a major confidence booster for the Devils who are looking forward to week 10, the final game for the seniors against South Range. The Devils are preparing hard and hoping for an upset against this team.

Week ten, the final game for the 2013 football team, and the last time the 2014 Seniors would suit up and play as a Lisbon Blue Devil. The Devil’s were beat by the South Range Raiders 49-3. The sole points scored were made true by Jannik Schmidt with a field goal. The Devil’s fought, they even had some big plays, but it just happened that the Raiders came out on top with them being the best in our league. The end of the season leaves the Devil’s with a record of 3-7, which is one better than last year. This trend will hopefully continue and the future teams can win more and more each year.
