Tobacco: The Deadliest Drug

Tobacco: The Deadliest Drug

It is a fact that many Americans smoke or abuse some type of tobacco on an everyday basis. It is amazing the amount of people who would chance all the medical risks by using tobacco products. The constant demand of these items only benefits the government. I do not agree that it should be legal to sell, buy, or distribute these products.

Although there are different ways to feed the need for nicotine, such as chewing tobacco or cigarettes, they all come with harmful health risks. Smoking cigarettes can cause anything from just a little yellowing of the teeth to lung cancer. Chewing can have just as many bad effects. For example, putting in a dip each day can put you in the path of gum decay or cancer; deformed facial features and other downfalls are also possibilities. So why does our government support such a harmful hobby?

In my opinion the government only contributes to Americans’ bad habits because they make so much money from them. All forms of tobacco are addicting to most people, just like drugs such as coke, meth and others. Yet the selling of items that can affect citizens in such a negative way is still legal. People become addicted and crave tobacco, just as someone would using another substance. I don’t think we should keep tobacco legal, thus feeding into addictions and destroying the health of many Americans.
