New Year’s Day Traditions

New Year’s Eve is a celebration to bring in the year, but what happens on the actual first day of the year? New Year’s Eve is full of partying with friends, family, and has national traditions like watching the ball drop in Times Square at midnight. A lot of people consider New Year’s Eve to be the real holiday and don’t actually celebrate anything on New Year’s Day.

Some people use it as a day to clean up from the night before and pack the rest of the Christmas decorations away. Others watch football bowl games that are played. Another tradition for many is to eat pork and sauerkraut, which is supposed to bring good luck for the coming year. People also reflect on this as a time to start fresh, and set New Year’s resolutions to make themselves better people for the coming year.
