Uncle Drew – Movie Review

Uncle Drew is a one of a kind movie. Originally, there was just clips on YouTube of an NBA star named Kyrie Irving dressed up to look like an older man, who can play basketball pretty well. While people were wondering about these clips, the movie was being filmed and it was released on June 29th, 2018. On February 16, 2017 PepsiCo announced that they would partner with Temple Hill Entertainment for the production of the film, which would be featuring the character Uncle Drew from the Pepsi Max advertisements.

Starring in this movie as the main characters are Kyrie Irving as Uncle Drew, Lil Rex Howery as Dax, Erica Ash as Maya, Nate Robinson as Boots, Lisa Leslie as Betty Lou, Tiffany Haddish as Jess, Chris Webber as Preacher, Nick Kroll as Mookie, and Reggie Miller as Lights. Uncle Drew is an American sports comedy film directed by Charles Stone III and written by Jay Longino. The movie was projected to gross $11-15 million from 2,742 theaters in its opening weekend and did. Uncle Drew debuted to $15.5 million in the United States and Canada, finishing fourth behind Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom, and Incredibles 2. Uncle Drew has a 62% rating and an average rating of 5.9/10. Audience polled by Cinema Score gave the film an average “A” on an A+ to F scale.

After seeing this movie, I would personally give it a 9/10 recommendation to watch. The reason I give it 9/10 is because not everyone is into sports or basketball, like this movie. If you are, then you most likely will love this movie. Not only did this movie crush its opening debut, it was seen all over the world by millions of people. It grossed $44.3 million in the United States and Canada for its opening weekend.
