Veterans Day Program

Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th of each year. It is a day where we honor all of the brave men and women who have risked their lives for our country. It originally was Armistice Day, which was a holiday to recognize soldiers who served in World War l. The date, November 11, was chosen because the war ended at 11am on 11-11-1918.

There will be a Veterans Day program at David Anderson Jr/Sr. High School on November 11, 2016 at 1:15pm to recognize those who have fought for our freedom. The program was put together by the social studies department. Aliyah Leyman, will be singing the “Star Spangled Banner.” The choir will also be singing “Thank you, Soldiers” and “Armed Forces Salute.” The veterans that are present will be introduced and Mark Boley, who is an Air Force veteran and DAHS graduate, will speak to the audience.

The seventh grade students will present biographical poems about a solider or veteran, while the eighth grade students will present a poem tied to veterans within different war periods. Every grade, from the sixth through the tenth, is having a contest within each grade for who has the best Veterans Day video. The winner for each grade will be announced at the program and will be treated to a pizza party.

The band will close the assembly with “God Bless the USA.”
