Is it Necessary to Play a Sport Year-Round?

Is it necessary to play a sport year-round if you want to be successful in that sport? There are different opinions on this and both sides have valid points that they could argue. In my opinion, yes, it is necessary. I believe it is necessary because if you are playing a sport year-round, you are going to get really good at that sport. Also, if you really like the sport, then you enjoy playing it all the time and strive to be successful. Chances are, you will be successful.

Some examples of people that play sports year-round and are succeeding at those sports are Kimmi Wiggers who plays volleyball, Autumn Oehlstrom and Kenedy Vrable who play softball, Karlee Pezzano who plays basketball, and Branson Brownfield who plays golf. All of the people listed play their sport year-round, whether that may be actual games or just practicing.

People who do not think it is necessary, may argue that playing a sport year-round can burn you out on that sport. I agree, this can happen. If you are playing a sport year-round then you may get tired and bored with it. If you do not like what you are doing then chances are you will not be as good as if you were putting full effort into it. Some may argue that they know athletes who do not play a sport year round that are successful at that sport. These people may just be natural athletes.

There are several athletes at DAHS that do not play a sport year-round that are very successful in their sport. They include Colin Sweeney who plays baseball, Jason Thompson who plays football and Hailey McVay who runs track.

Overall, there are good reasons on why it may or may not be necessary to play a sport year-round if you want to be successful at that sport.
