Mock Trial Team at State

The Mock Trial team went to Columbus on Thursday, March 10th for the state competition. Mr. Witman, the adviser for Mock Trial, said that Columbus is very competitive and that after the first day the draw goes from 37 teams to 8 teams. It is a great opportunity for our team. Mr. Witman tells the students that they should give their best effort and see how the judges score it.

The case, Riley Green vs. The State of Harmony, is the same case that was presented for the Columbiana County competition and the district competition in Akron. The day of the trial consisted of the prosecution performing from 2-4 pm and the defense went from 6-8 pm. While the team was waiting for the trial, the OCLRE had a guest speaker from the Ohio Supreme Court who spoke at 1:30 pm on the proposal to let 17 year olds vote in the primary.

In preparing for Columbus, Mr. Witman had taken a different route than in the past by starting later than usual and pushing the students in January. He said that they knew their parts, openings and closings, and is proud of the team for making it to state.
