On February 5, 2016, senior Austin Rutecki broke two school records in one game. Scoring 48 points and 12 rebounds, he broke the school career scoring record and the single game record in the process. Austin said he heard people saying he was getting close but he did not know exactly how many more points he needed. He finished the night shooting 18 for 24 overall.
Rutecki said it was just one of those nights when his shots were all falling. Austin’s 48 points broke the record of 47 points set by Lucian Smith against Crestview in February, 2004. Rutecki finished the night with 1,447 career points, passing Lucians Smith record of 1,439 points, set in 2004. Rutecki said he was proud to join the record book with an athlete such as Lucian Smith, who was a great player and teammate.
