DAHS Seniors and Teacher Honored at Heads Above the Rest Brunch

On Thursday, April 30th, the Columbiana County Educational Service Center (CCESC) held their annual “Heads Above the Rest” Senior Honors Recognition Brunch and Awards Recognition. The event, held at the Salem Golf Club, recognizes seniors from county high schools who scored above the 97th percentile on national college entrance exams, that is, the ACT or SAT.

This year 26 students were honored and received plaques. Among them were DAHS students Vanessa Restifo and David Stryffeler, along with their parents. Also in attendance was DAHS Principal Mr. Keith Edenfield, Superintendent Mr. Joseph Siefke, and STAR Educator honoree Mr. Watt.

Each year, the students being recognized nominate one teacher that has had the greatest influence on them to be awarded the “STAR Educator” honor. Last year’s student, Zak Smith, chose Mr. Watt, who was recognized as STAR Educator and awarded a glass star.

To close the program, guest speaker Andrew Reeves, project manager at Eleet Cryogenics, an East Palestine graduate and former Heads Above the Rest honoree, addressed the crowd with a moving and thought-provoking speech.
