Mr. Thompson Retires after 11 Years as Superintendent

This year, as we say goodbye to the seniors, we will also be saying goodbye to our Superintendent of 11 years, Mr. Donald Thompson. Mr. Thompson started out as a teacher and coach at Southern Local, and then moved to Lisbon High School to teach and coach. In 1993 he became the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director here at Lisbon, before moving up to Principal in 2000. By 2003, Mr. Thompson was the superintendent of Lisbon Exempted Village Schools. This is his 35th year in education.

When asked about his favorite memory from his years of teaching and coaching, Mr. Thompson told us there were too many to count, though he will miss the interaction with students and staff. He says that he is very proud of the construction on our school district that went on from 2003 to 2007 on both the elementary and high schools, as well as the board office.

In his personal life, Mr. Thompson is a member of Lisbon United Methodist Church where he serves as the Finance Committee Chair and PPR Chair. In 1984 Mr. Thompson started the Columbiana County Basketball Coaches Association which has given out over $185,000 in scholarships to student athletes in Columbiana County through the annual all-star contest.  He was also a member of the Columbiana County 4-H Steer Committee from 1985 to 1996. Mr. Thompson is a member of Lisbon Kiwanis Club where he has served as treasurer since 2008. He is also a current member of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA) and has served on both the School Facilities and the Report Card Committees over the past five years. He is an ex officio member of the Lisbon Alumni Association and is a member of the Beaver Local Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2006.

When he is not busy with all of his superintendent duties, Mr. Thompson can be found spending time with his five children, wife, and grandchild at his home in Lisbon.
