Power of the Pen

Power of the Pen

I went to Mount Union for Power of the Pen. It is a writing contest. You are given writing prompts and you have forty minutes to write a narrative story or essay relating to the topic. You are then scored from one to six. The people who are scored a one go on and are judged the best of the best. There are only three rounds of writing, one prompt for each round.

The lunch was one of the best parts. They had a huge buffet and it was filled with all kinds of good food. So after you had a long day of writing, you have over an hour to eat tons and tons of food. I was definitely filled and possibly ate too much. After lunch is over you go to the awards.

They presented many awards. We did not place in the top ten but we went up against tough schools. Our teacher, Mrs.Crawford, said we placed in a good spot and we did a good job. So she was very pleased.

The experience at Mount Union was great! Being able to meet people from other schools and getting the chance to write about whatever comes to mind feels good. Also, knowing we did our best shows that if we come back we will be ready to place higher and win awards. I really had a good time and would go again.
